Mission Statement

The Gulf Affairs Magazine is an independent publication dedicated to providing original analyses of issues in the Middle East and North Africa region. With staff writers spanning the globe, we strive to foster dialogue, support scholarly research, and encourage the publication of original research and interviews centered around the MENA region.

Tyler Headley
Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief 

Tyler is a fourth-year student from the United States majoring in Political Science. He was recently a research assistant at the NYU School of Law and the Center on International Cooperation. His research and articles have been published in magazines such as Foreign Affairs and The Diplomat.

 

 

Christian Duborg
Co-Managing Editor

Christian is a second-year student from the United States majoring in Political Science and  Arab Crossroads. Aspiring to join the US Foreign Service, he is passionate about a variety of topics from religion to popular movements to international conflict.

Thomas is a third-year student from New Zealand majoring in Economics and concentrating in Arabic. A passionate debater, Thomas strongly believes in the importance of understanding both sides of an issue; a belief that was instrumental to the creation of this magazine.

Jhamal is a fourth-year from the United States majoring in Chemistry. He is an aspiring environmental lawyer. Jhamal harkens from the mountains outside of Boulder, Colorado and consequentially has a great love for nature and (editor’s note: occasionally garish) tie-dye T-shirts.

Janna was born in the Republic of Moldova and now lives in the United States. She recently completed an honors B.A. in Economics. She is passionate about macroeconomic policy, developmental economics, and the history and economics of the Middle East. She also enjoys making use of her fluency in 3 languages to follow global news.

Ahmed is third-year student from Egypt majoring in Economics and minoring in Political Science. His academic interests include macroeconomic policy, political economy and middle-eastern studies. Outside of academics, he is interested in jazz, classic rock and oriental music.

Jakob is a second-year student from Denmark majoring in Political Science and Arab Crossroads. His fields of interest include sectarian conflict and its spill-over into international relations and development. In the past, he has written on the emergence of ISIS and its purpose.

During her undergraduate career, Simi has cultivated strong interests in international law and foreign affairs, specifically in the areas of counter-terrorism and institution building.

Chris is a third-year student from England majoring in Political Science. His academic interests include International Affairs, Conflict Resolution and Counter-Terrorism. Chris recently worked for the International Center for Countering Violent Extremism.

Pranav Mehta is a third-year student from India majoring in Electrical Engineering. He has worked on several engineering projects that have earned him accolades, most notably the Innovator ’16 competition held in Abu Dhabi. Pranav also works as a part-time graphic designer.
